August 5th Park Day Change

It seems as if most of the local splash parks have closed on weekdays...so for Thursday's (August 5th) Park Day we will be trekking over to Dublin to a cool splash park Tanya found.  It is free to attend, just a little bit of gas and time to get there.  The address is 4201 Central Parkway (Tassajara Road and Central Parkway), Dublin.  (http://www.ci.dublin.ca.us/DepartmentSubLevel2.cfm?PL=Rec&SL=prkfac&dsplyID=430)  FYI, it is supposed to be warm in Dublin that day according to the forecast, so the kids shouldn't freeze. :)

"A Moment of Excellence"

Starting in July, we will asking sisters to share a "Moment of Excellence" at our monthly Relief Society activities. If you have a great experience fulfilling a goal or something you are working on please let me know! We'd love you to share it will the other Relief Society sisters! Our goal is to help motivate one another and share ideas of things we can complete on our own. :)

I'd also like to highlight a blog that Candace Gingery started on behalf of the Hayward Stake Relief Society - As Sisters in the Hayward Stake. It's full of fun pictures from past activities.

If a blog is something you'd like to start for your family or something else, let me know and I'd be willing to help you get started. If you are concerned with privacy there are ways to make it secure that only you and those you invite can read the content. I have a blog I use as a family journal and it's been a great way for me to record fun events!

June Goals of the Month

I thought I'd highlight a few goals each month to remind sisters of their options! Hope everyone is continuing to fulfill their goals. :)

Invite a neighbor over for dessert. (Theology #19)

Arrange some fresh flowers in your home. (Home Improvement #6)

Play with your kids outside 20 minutes, 2 days a week for a month. (Health & Physical Ed #22) [we're taking a trip to Ardenwood Farm this Thursday, June 10, 2010 @10am]

Introduce yourself to someone new at church, sit by them. (Psychology #14)

Goal #21 College of Computer Science/Technology

LEARN HOW TO AND CREATE YOUR OWN FAMILY BLOG.

For those of you who are wondering what a blog even is...this is one! A blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

If this a goal you would like to work on and are not sure exactly how to do it...please let me know! I know of several sisters within the ward who have created a family blog (me, UCYM, Tanya, Colleen). A blog is a fun and easy to way to create a journal complete with pictures, videos, etc. You can make them "private" so only those who you want to share information with can see it, or "public", allowing anyone to view the content. Every year I actually make a hard copy "blog book" full of activities from the past year.

Group Goals

Throughout the year we plan to hold some activities that will help you complete some of your goals. On Tuesday night we asked you to write down some activities you thought might be fun to do as a group - here are some of the suggestions:

Group Goals:
  1. Exercise (3)
  2. Cooking (3)
  3. Gardening (2)
  4. Attend a professional sporting event (3)
  5. Attend a live symphony, musical recital or dance performance (3)
  6. Learn to make things from scratch
  7. Arrange fresh flowers
  8. Travel & visit a historical site (2)
  9. Attend a play (in SF or SJ) (3)
  10. Group discussion to strengthen families
  11. Learn Spanish
  12. Quilt premie blankets (2)
  13. Christmas craft (2)
  14. Family History Work

Welcome to the University of Excellence!

Through the University of Excellence program, you may earn your Bachelor, Masters, or Doctorate degree by selecting and completing goals. University of Excellence offers each sister motivation, opportunity, and direction to assist her in attaining her divine potential and destiny as a daughter of God.

We, the Union City Relief Society, will be participating in this activity for the year 2010. We want your experience to be full of FAITH, FUN, and FELLOWSHIP. We will plan activities to help you achieve your goals and you may be asked to help someone else achieve theirs. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills as well as share your talents with others.

You should have received an informational packet last Tuesday night (January 5th, 2010) at our monthly Relief Society activity. If you were not able to attend please see Sister Robin Jacobsen for a copy.

If you have any further questions please contact me (Rachel Keyser), Robin Jacobsen, or Kathi Sathre.

I've started this blog as a way for sisters to share experiences they have along the way as they complete their individual degrees. If you are unsure how to post items, please let me know and I can help!
